EcoProtect//ThePowermaster – Distributing Power Intelligently And Sustainably

In the AV and DS sector, the topic of sustainability has become an increasingly important role. This is why the company VISCON in Neukirchen-Vluyn, for example, has dedicated itself to this topic with the development of the EcoProtect//ThePowermaster.

Green AV is the term of the hour here. And with this general awareness, there are also more and more products and systems that are making energy-efficient operation easier. One of these products, and a particularly effective one for LANG AG’s professional range, is the smart energy control system EcoProtect//ThePowermaster. This device will be on show at ISE 2024 from January 30th to February 2nd in Barcelona by LANG at booth #3H500 where all of its versatile functions will be on full display.

Smart use of energy

What makes the EcoProtect//ThePowermaster so outstanding is its strong focus on operation that keeps power consumption as low as possible while maximizing the protection of the connected devices at the same time. The intelligent power management system is therefore a valuable asset for numerous fixed AV installations, and, for this reason, it has become a popular distribution device at LANG – especially for LED installations.

But what exactly can this 19″ rack system do? One major aspect is the automatable switching which reduces the standby power consumption of connected AV devices to zero. Standby mode is usually a hidden factor in power consumption that can accumulate quickly, especially when using a greater number of devices such as LED walls with numerous cabinets. However, EcoProtect//ThePowermaster not only saves money here by saving electricity, but it also keeps CO2 emissions low in the long run.

Additionally, devices should only be operated when they are actually needed. The EcoProtect//ThePowermaster offers an appropriate solution here in the form of an integrated, freely programmable timer. In practical use, this means that you can set in advance which devices are to be switched off or on at what times. If an LED wall and its peripherals are only to be switched on for a specific period of time, this can be precisely planned and set using the scheduler.

Another essential aspect is on and off switching. These processes can have a critical effect on the hardware and EcoProtect//ThePowermaster presents another valuable function here. Voltage peaks occur particularly when electrical appliances are switched on and, although they are hardly significant in terms of power consumption due to their short duration, their force puts a strain on the substance of the appliance in the long term and can lead to faster aging and greater susceptibility to defects. This means that, in many cases, LED walls or displays are not really switched off completely and run overnight with a black image, for example at trade fairs – this is neither sustainable nor efficient.

Practical, safe and sustainable

This is where EcoProtect//ThePowermaster comes into play again, as the zero-cross switching effectively protects the connected components during switching and reduces possible interference factors. In terms of the Green AV idea, this is doubly advantageous: devices and installations can be safely switched off in order to save electricity and thus improve the CO2 balance, while at the same time reducing higher strain on the components.

The EcoProtect//ThePowermaster is available in three different model variants: EPPM 16 with 380 V/16 A connection and 11 kW switching capacity, EPPM 32 correspondingly with 380 V/32 A connection and 22 kW switching capacity, and the EPMM 32+ version, which additionally offers a network monitor. Whichever version you choose, the EcoProtect//ThePowermaster also increases safety at the installation site with appropriate industry-standard safety features, such as protection against short circuits or overvoltage. It can also be seamlessly integrated into media, show and building control systems. This means that no additional devices or solutions are required for integration, which in turn saves additional resources.

With the intelligent EcoProtect//ThePowermaster, it is ultimately possible to reduce consumption in so many otherwise energy-intensive AV and DS processes. This not only brings a lot of practical advantages for the project itself, but the smart energy management system puts the increasingly important basic idea of Green AV into the spotlight as well.
