R&D solutions – Smart Innovation In The Detail

Some problems have no solutions – until Reimund Piechota builds one: The developer designs special devices for special tasks. We take a look at his products.

Image processing plays a crucial role in professional AV technology. As the essential core of every project, it is the heart and brain of every operation, while displays, LED walls and projectors take care of the results for the spectator.

The complexity of this field results from the diversity of projects in the AV sector. The tasks and technology required for them are often quite complex, and the hardware used has to be sophisticated and powerful. For every task, there is almost always a suitable device – but only almost.

Reimund Piechota, Manager R&D Solutions at LANG AG, is dedicated to these challenges. He designs special devices for special tasks – for example to untangle complicated processes, to fulfil very specific requirements or to simplify workflows intelligently. His devices, all handmade in small quantities for the LANG product range, are characterised by the highest quality and focus on easy handling: not only do they solve problems, they also make the problem-solving process for LANG AG’s customers easier and optimise the workflow with smart technology.

Filling the gaps

But what exactly are these products? And what can they actually do? One of the devices is the intercom and tally breakout box for camera systems. It is available either in a 19″ format and one rack unit or as a compact desktop version. The breakout box enables direct and uncomplicated connection of the camera’s intercom and tally interfaces and supports all available functions such as 2-wire and 4-wire intercoms as well as tallies in several colours and connector types. The breakout boxes are compatible with most CCUs from manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony or Ikegami. Tally adapters are also available for differing pin assignments, such as for cameras from Grass Valley or new Sony devices with 50-pin connection, to accommodate the variety of camera systems from various manufacturers.

If you work a lot with fibre optics, clean and faultless fibre optic cables are obviously a necessity. Reimund developed the Fibercheck series as a simple and clearly designed control device: no special expertise in the field of fibre optic measurement technology is required to use it – just plug in, read the display, done. The devices support various widely used connector types such as LC, SC or ST, but also opticalCON DUO and QUAD, which are quite present in the event sector, in part due to their robustness.

The Fibercheck-880 for example has proven itself over the years and now has a successor in the form of the Fibercheck SM/MM, which is no longer only multimode but also singlemode compatible. The product family also includes the Fibercheck-MTP12 and the Fibercheck-MTP24. These devices close a special but nevertheless open gap as well by being able to test opticalCON MTP12 and MTP24 multimode cables respectively.

Solutions not found anywhere else

A wide range of applications – and the R&D department has user-friendly and clearly laid out specialised devices for them. However, these are just a few examples from the entire repertoire: Reimund and his team are extremely productive in the field of electronic solutions, which are often used in image processing, but are also partly intended for other areas – like for media FIRE PROTECT or for LED, display or dome camera applications in the form of transmitters and receivers. The product range even includes mechanical mounting and assembly solutions as well as the customised procurement of power supply units in special designs.

What all these R&D solutions ultimately have in common is high-quality workmanship and the great potential to simplify processes within demanding AV projects. And even if there is no suitable device in certain cases, it is worth contacting Reimund and his team – because depending on requirements and urgency, it is possible to develop products with special features and functions and produce them in small quantities.

AV technology is an exciting but also potentially complex field – but Reimund’s devices are making this world a little simpler, bit by bit.
